A toolbox of cool techniques

Layer, layer & Layer

This is the first in my “Toolbox of Techniques.”

GLAZING: One of the ways to create amazing effects is to glaze. Thin glazes involve applying a transparent layer of paint over a dried layer to create a luminous effect. To achieve this, one mixes the acrylic paint with a glazing medium or water. This is then applied with a soft brush to avoid disturbing the underlayer. The end results are awesome.

Our students love learning techniques like this that they can add to their amoury of art know-how. Once you know how to create magic with acrylics, there’s no looking back. Next time I’ll touch on another layering technique that we love using at Art In The Bay.

Book a class and come and learn how to glaze!
